    AP: Advanced Placement Courses

    Advanced Placement

Advanced Placement (AP) is a program in the United States and Canada created by the College Board which offers college-level curricula and examinations to high school students.  American colleges and universities may grant placement and course credit to students who obtain high scores on the examinations.

AP classes sharpen students' writing skills, teach them how to think critically, and improve their problem-solving abilities. AP students learn to navigate the academic expectations they'll encounter in college courses. AP courses and exam scores can also help students qualify for scholarships.

    Credit Recovery

If, at the end of a trimester, a student does not quite pass their class but only has a few outstanding assignments to finish or remediate, their transcript is marked with a CR (Credit Recovery). This is an opportunity for students to remediate work and get credit for classes in which they were close to passing, instead of completely retaking classes. In the following trimester, the student would be enrolled in Credit Recovery (which shows as a 6th block class on their schedules). Credit Recovery is offered after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 2:15-3:45 in designated classrooms based on subject. Students can come on the days that work with their schedule and not every day. Most students complete their credit recovery in 3-6 after school sessions. The student and family is notified by mailed letter about when the student qualifies for credit recovery, and it is the responsibility of the student to connect with the designated credit recovery teacher for their subject to determine a plan for completing the work. Once the work is completed satisfactorily, the final letter grade is entered on their transcript to replace the CR.

    Early College Summer Courses 2023

    • Click here: 3 Reasons for Early College Credits with a Purpose!
    • Please note that these sections will fill on a first come, first served basis and most are open to all UMS students (not just Early College students). We will not process applications until they are complete (student, parent, counselor).
    • Because many of these courses are shorter in length, they will be more intensive and students should have a study hall or time management plan to ensure adequate time set aside for a successful experience.
    • Free online tutoring for all EC students (they will be provided a link by their EC campus administrator).
    • Dual enrollment courses and Early College credits are also available through many of the vocational programs at WRVC and PATHS!

    Online Learning Tips

Some tips for online learning to help you through this unpredictable time!

    • Keep a To-Do List (on paper?!) with clear due dates. Check things off and keep it up to date.
    • Create a schedule for yourself at home. What are your routines to wake up in the morning? to go to sleep at night? to eat and take breaks?
    • Maintain communication with your teachers through email and Google Meet.
    • Create balance in your life--time for school, family, friends, personal time, and time to take care of your basic needs (sleeping, eating, exercising, etc.)
    • Keep up with Google Classroom announcements and assignments!
    Pathways

    Freshmen Academy

    STEM Program

At Bonny Eagle, we are committed to developing multiple opportunities for all students to excel in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).  We are designing pathways to help students develop skills, solve problems, and explore career opportunities in STEM fields.  Students can also create their own pathways.  Students are encouraged to discuss STEM options with their advisors and counselors when choosing their high school courses and creating a post-secondary plan.  More information can be found in the BEHS - STEM Program Guide.

    Stretch Academy

The Stretch Academy is designed to provide a rigorous academic course sequence for students who aspire to attend a selective post-secondary setting after high school.  Students who are interested should work closely with their school counselor and teachers to develop a competitive transcript that will include select Honors, Advanced Placement, and Early College courses to provide academic preparation consistent with the individual student's post-secondary aspirations.  More information can be found in the Stretch Academy Brochure.
